Edge Capital has been operating in New Zealand since 2000 with offices in Auckland and Wellington.  Originally operating as a full service broker and investment bank it was part of the StoneBridge Group (previously called Tricom Securities), which was restructured and the broking division taken over by BBY in 2011.

In 2007 Edge Capital obtained dual accreditation as a NZX Advising Firm and NZX Futures and Options Participant, allowing it to deal in both the futures and equities markets as a licensed participant.  In 2011 its licensing functions were taken over by the newly established Financial Markets Authority and the company continued accreditation as an Authorised Futures Dealer under the Securities Markets Act.

Edge Capital in its current form was born out of the advisory business run by Stonebridge in New Zealand when senior management and advisors acquired the NZ subsidiary in a friendly buyout in 2010. At that time the business was restructured to focus on client advisory and execution services, with broking and settlement facilities provided by 3rd party providers.

The company is now privately owned by eight principals, comprising the executive management and senior advisors of the business, with head-office in Wellington.
